We're still waiting for the back end of Irene, but we've survived the rains. It looks like the main part missed us or it hit while we were sleeping and we just woke up to the destruction. Personally it doesn't seem like it was as bad as they said it would be, at least not here. I can see the trees whipping around as I write this, but considering they were calling for wide spread flooding here in town and they did issue an evacuation, it's not as bad as it could have been.
We still have power at the house, although I don't think the neighbors do. And my parents don't have any. There's a little water in the basement and the back yard is a lake like usual, but the trees are intact for the most part. I took a few pictures, but per my cousin's orders (he's a firefighter in town) did not venture out of our yard.

Our front yard from the porch

Our rain gage--you can't tell, but it's overflowing. It measures about 6 inches; I emptied it before I went to bed and it had about .5 one time and .6 another.

A view up the street, you can just see the downed tree branch.

Closer view of the tree branch with the downed wires visible (apparently they are not live because they did come and move the branch now)

The open basement drain once we got it working again--we've got about 2 inches down there--which is pretty good and a lot less than we were figuring

The driveway aka our lake

The backyard
The next few are different views of the driveway and the backyard

I think this is my favorite of the ones I took out back:

I couldn't move the tomato plants on my own and no one seemed willing to assist me in moving them so they stayed on the porch.

One tomato came off the plants. The rest are just fine.

Our front yard which doesn't look too bad all things considered

29/8/11 03:20 (UTC)My parents lost a tree onto the roof, but it doesn't appear to have done any major damage.
Our neighbor had a tree fall onto power lines but they already have the branch cleared.

29/8/11 03:28 (UTC)Well I took the brave one in and fried it up and Gramma had a fried green tomato sandwich for supper. I can't eat tomatoes, I'm allergic, but she said it was really good.
*hugs*

29/8/11 04:07 (UTC)Yeah I really wasn't expecting it to be as bad as they were saying here. It was worse elsewhere. And thanks I'm glad we're all okay also.

29/8/11 04:23 (UTC)I do agree with my cousin though when he was complaining about the idiots who won't listen and stay home when they're told. Running out to see the damage is just stupid. Although the cop who wanted to come over and yell at my cousin was hysterical. He's a firefighter in a town that's a square mile. You'd think they'd know each other!

29/8/11 13:12 (UTC)Mom and Boo came here to spend the night because they have no power and Mom has to work today. They also had a tree come down on the roof, but it seems to have done minimal damage.

29/8/11 13:24 (UTC)We were discussing what they were going to do with the Intrepid, but I don't know that I ever heard. I might have to look it up and see if I can find out.
I send you a couple of emails, but no hurries. You stay safe too and let me know when you can if you've had any news on your change of station.
