We're still waiting for the back end of Irene, but we've survived the rains. It looks like the main part missed us or it hit while we were sleeping and we just woke up to the destruction. Personally it doesn't seem like it was as bad as they said it would be, at least not here. I can see the trees whipping around as I write this, but considering they were calling for wide spread flooding here in town and they did issue an evacuation, it's not as bad as it could have been.

We still have power at the house, although I don't think the neighbors do. And my parents don't have any. There's a little water in the basement and the back yard is a lake like usual, but the trees are intact for the most part. I took a few pictures, but per my cousin's orders (he's a firefighter in town) did not venture out of our yard.

Our rain gage--you can't tell, but it's overflowing. It measures about 6 inches; I emptied it before I went to bed and it had about .5 one time and .6 another.

A view up the street, you can just see the downed tree branch.

Closer view of the tree branch with the downed wires visible (apparently they are not live because they did come and move the branch now)

The open basement drain once we got it working again--we've got about 2 inches down there--which is pretty good and a lot less than we were figuring

I think this is my favorite of the ones I took out back:

I couldn't move the tomato plants on my own and no one seemed willing to assist me in moving them so they stayed on the porch.

One tomato came off the plants. The rest are just fine.

Mild damage, considering the kind of damage you could have had. Glad the tomatoes made it! :D At least no downed trees. Those are hell to get cut down enough to move. Especially when they fall on power lines.

This is why I'm glad I live in a land locked province that's not near any fault lines. All we have to worry about up here are tornadoes, wild fires, obscene amounts of snow and winters that last eight months.

I'm glad the hurricane wasn't as bad as everyone was saying. Also glad you guys are safe. :)

Living in Florida I can relate. That doesn't look too bad at all. The media always makes it seem like it will be the end of the world. I think that just means people start to ignore all the doomsaying and them when it is really bad they don't prepare because they've heard it a dozen times before and nothing happened.

I'm glad it's almost over for you. Your lake looks a lot like my lake everytime we have a hurricane. :) Nice to know I'm not the only one that gets a houseboat.

I'm so glad you're okay, sweetie. We got one bearing down on us, too. We might have to go out to avoid it. And we just got back! There were rumors we wouldn't be coming in at all.

Stay safe.
