The Aftermath of Hurricane Irene

We're still waiting for the back end of Irene, but we've survived the rains. It looks like the main part missed us or it hit while we were sleeping and we just woke up to the destruction. Personally it doesn't seem like it was as bad as they said it would be, at least not here. I can see the trees whipping around as I write this, but considering they were calling for wide spread flooding here in town and they did issue an evacuation, it's not as bad as it could have been.

We still have power at the house, although I don't think the neighbors do. And my parents don't have any. There's a little water in the basement and the back yard is a lake like usual, but the trees are intact for the most part. I took a few pictures, but per my cousin's orders (he's a firefighter in town) did not venture out of our yard.

Our rain gage--you can't tell, but it's overflowing. It measures about 6 inches; I emptied it before I went to bed and it had about .5 one time and .6 another.

The open basement drain once we got it working again--we've got about 2 inches down there--which is pretty good and a lot less than we were figuring

I couldn't move the tomato plants on my own and no one seemed willing to assist me in moving them so they stayed on the porch.



One tomato came off the plants. The rest are just fine.

Thank God that you are OK...I´ve been following it on TV and it seemed horrible..
Glad the tomatoes made it..the one that gave it life was a brave one I am sure;)

I'm fine. A bit wet, but perfectly fine. Yeah, we missed most of it though. My gramma's house happens to be within the two block radius that does not flood. We did get an evacuation warning last night, but since the shelter is actually in the flood plain--we decided to stay put.

Well I took the brave one in and fried it up and Gramma had a fried green tomato sandwich for supper. I can't eat tomatoes, I'm allergic, but she said it was really good.
