I don't know if I can quote it exactly and I don't have a copy at this house with me...oh wait...I can probably google it.

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had just two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home."

The Outsiders by SE Hinton. I don't remember when I first read it, but I know I was a freshman or sophomore in high school and I just...loved it. Finally here was a book that didn't sugarcoat or make everything all perfect and happy ever after. Then I found out the author was a teenager? And I was hooked. I've both re-read and taught the book since then and I have to admit, it's one of the ones I can get almost every student to relate to.

I have a couple..and I'm sure at least one of them no one has ever heard of.

1) Rocky Horror Picture Show: Mostly because I first saw it with some friends (who probably shouldn't have taken me considering I was like 12 at the time) and they actually taught me all the words to the songs and got me up and participating. For people who know me IRL, you'd be surprised to know that I'm actually shy about getting up on stage and stuff so it was fun to do this and know that my friends (who were all adults) were acting just as insane and goofy as I was.

2) The Monster Squad: the first time I saw this I was scared to death (stupid considering it is one of THE least scary monster movies out there), but it later became one of the three movies I watched every time I was sick. And I can to this day do almost the entire movie word for word.

3) Blood Ties: Just love the take on vampires. They walk in sun, they can be killed if they get hit by a taxi cab. Yeah I'm weird. I just love the movie. I dunno...I like things that take a "normal" idea and change it up.

And seriously I could name like 20 more "little known, cult" movies...but I'll stop with those three.

I'll give you two for the price of one...my UN on here and my UN on my writing group...

Here first:

[livejournal.com profile] shanachie_quill  is partly from my sister. According to her shanachie is the Gaelic word for storyteller...not sure whether this is true or not since I've never managed to look it up. And quill is because I think quills are neat to write with (yes I have actually done it) and I think it looks cool on paper. Granted they are also annoying as fuck...but still really cool. I have a really cool oil painting that a friend did for me years ago of a hand writing with a quill because I love quills so much.

And my writing UN:

is Medievalgirl

medieval because I belong to a medieval re-enactment group called the SCA and I love learning about and doing things that have to do with the Medieval Times (not that I'd want to live there, but studying it and all is cool). And girl...well obvious reasons...I am one. One of my friends shortened this to Medie (pronounced Mee-Dee) years ago so most people call me that on the site. The funniest part about this? I have been mistaken for a boy MORE THAN ONCE!

So those are my usernames. Kinda cool to look at and think about the ideas behind them again.

So I was reading [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon 's journal this morning... (and I really should be packing up my crap so I can check out and head over to Bama's place since check-out time is 11, but I have an hour) and saw that the poll for the day was "Have you ever driven the wrong way on a one way street?"

Um, yes. I can't say it's exactly my fault...well it is in that I saw the signs once I got on the street, but it's not my fault in that someone else gave me directions.

See I used to live on Staten Island. And I had some friends when I lived there that had grown up on the island. So when I needed to go somewhere or find something, I generally called them for directions. My one friend, Danny, always swore he "knew the Island like the back of his hand". (Italian, male, BIIIIG ego!) Well another friend, Aimee, had a flat tire so I called Danny for directions and off we went in my car.

We were fine for the beginning, then we turned down a street (no signs at the beginning) but I noticed all the cars were facing us (on both sides). We got about halfway down and I saw signs saying the street was One Way. Aimee and I looked at each other and saw the garage we needed was about a block and a half ahead. I didn't see any cops so I said I was going. Half a block farther a car came at us. I swerved, I swore. No accident.

When I got back to the dorm (after dropping Aimee and the new tire at her car with some friends who were going to fix it), I called Danny and cursed him out. I've checked directions and signage since then.

No I didn't.
Yes I would.
Yes I did.

But that needs some explanation.

I didn't get the name my mother wanted...my donor is an asshole. Or well my biological father is an asshole. To the point that I refer to him as my donor.

So I legally changed my name to the middle name my mother wanted and to her last name which is the maiden name she re-took when she got a divorce.

Of course to this day, some of my family refuses to use that name change.

And just because this is an open post I'm not going to post the actual name.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Honey and Lemon. And it's almost exactly what it sounds like. You take a little bit of honey and a little bit of lemon juice, mix it together and then heat it until its slightly warm. Its mostly for sore throats or coughing and it soothes so nicely...almost better than cough meds sometimes.

[Error: unknown template qotd] I don't think I really have a most played song but group...um either Gaelic Storm or then tied between Christian Kane and Steve Carlson. And right now...it really leans more towards Kane and Carlson. My music completely depends on my mood although I prefer that my music not make me cry. There are certain songs/musicians that I will listen to the slow sappy songs though...and nope I won't admit who they are...those of you who know me...know who they are. :-)

I'm leaving the above...but I figured I should go and see what my most played song actually is...um...yeah...*snort giggles* Yeah...it's not any of those bands...and actually I'm not surprised since I've actually been slightly obsessed with this song lately. And I completely blames some friends that are going to remain nameless for getting me to watch SPN.

The most played song on my iTunes? Carry On Wayward Son 15 times!

Then yes...14 Kane/Carlson songs out of 25...so see I wasn't that far off. And  bunch of the intros (4) from the London album.
