So every couple of months, a meme runs around El-Jay where you put your iPod or mp3 on shuffle and write down the first 25 songs that come up and don't skip any.

This is not that meme.

No seriously this is not that meme.

This is a different meme.

The Meme:
Choose one of my characters that I write...and I will tell you their 4 favorite songs...and 1 song that they don't want to admit they listen to. Depending on my mood (or more accurately their moods), you may or may not get their reasons for why those particular songs.

If you have problems figuring out who I write, check the tags on the side or ask me. I reserve the right to not answer any particular character.

Sari's Top 5 Songs

Considering how many of her friends and family are musicians, you'd think that Sari's top 5 songs are by them, but they aren't. Or not exactly.

1. Her first and favorite song isn't precisely a song at all. Or well it is a song, but not one that has been released anywhere. The beauty of living with two musicians (with a studio in their basement) was that there were often random recordings from them just playing around. One such recording existed from a night not long after they'd returned from London. They'd wandered down to the studio after dinner and the guys had picked up their guitars while Sari sprawled across the couch. They'd been tipsy and possibly a little high on each other and maybe something else (she couldn't remember now) and more than a little jetlagged. Chris had started playing, something slow and sweet that Steve had easily picked up and they had wound over and around each other for a little while until Chris had laughed, low and dirty (the microphone had captured the sound entirely too well), saying 'Fuck it' and slid into "7 Days". The song wasn't clean or anywhere near the "official" version, but it reminded her of that night and how somehow they were okay and all right with each other--even when they weren't.

2. "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big and Rich--mostly because it makes Chris glare--no seriously--he hates the song and every time she plays it, he glares and she giggles (and he has yet to catch onto that being the reason she loves it(seriously for an empath he can be really dense)

3. A grouping of Tsalagi songs--she wasn't sure how else to describe it--that Steve had somehow recorded one trip home to Oklahoma. She called it that because the songs were all in Tsalagi and had been recorded during a visit to the reservation. It wasn't a professional group by any means, but the voices were all friends and people she loved and when she listened closely she could pick out individual voices (including herself, Chris, Steve, and Bear).

4. "Elephant Love Medley--from Moulin Rouge; a silly song yes and probably a more romantic song than most people would think of for her. But one time when she was sick, the two guys had found the movie among the unwatched DVDs and snuggled up on either side of her. She'd fallen asleep a few minutes into the movie and woken sometime later to the song playing; Chris singing softly above her while Steve was scribbling randomly on a pad of paper. She'd closed her eyes again and drifted back off; safe and secure between her boys. The song always reminded her of that feeling.

5. "House Arrest" by Bryan Adams for no other reason than sometimes she likes to dance to a fast beat.

And the song Sari doesn't want to admit she listens to and loves?

Journey's "Don't Stop Believing". There's just something so catchy about the song. Besides without fail...if she sings it...the boys will pick it up and then Chris will growl because he's annoyed that it's stuck in his head. Also for some reason if she hums it, it calms him down really quickly. (She'll never tell him that's what she's humming though.)

*nods* Yeah...I wanted hers to have emotional impact...not just be songs. And then...the last song (the Bryan Adams one) was just...meh need a song after the emotion of the last few.

*giggles* Yes, Journey ftw!

UMMMM, Nick for sure
Posted by [identity profile] shanachie-quill.livejournal.com
Nick was born and raised in the French Quarter and his music tastes reflect that. He listens mostly to zydeco music and jazz, although every once in a while something else will creep into his listening library. He always has to have music around him and he can often be found around the festivals on the weekends and holidays. He enjoys all bands, but these are some of his favorite songs.

All by Wayne Toups
For slow and romantic, he prefers:
“Take My Hand”
“That’s What I Love About My Baby”

While for faster music, he likes:
“Johnnie Peut Pas Dancer”
“Ma Belle”

In addition to those songs, his favorite radio stations are the Tulane Radio Station (http://www.tulane.edu/~wtul/listen.html) while he’s at work and WWOZ (http://www.wwoz.org/) when he’s out and about, but since he lives in the French Quarter, he’d rather just throw his windows open and let the sounds of the street creep in. In his office at Tulane, he always has the radio on—lower if he’s got students in for conferences; louder if he’s grading papers or doing work. His co-workers joke that that’s how they know Professor Gauthier is in the building.

And the song he doesn’t want to admit to (since some days he thinks he’d be disowned for listening to something else):
The Eagles’ “Life in the Fast Lane”

(Special thanks to Palm__trees for her assistance with the music here…I could not have finished this part of the meme without her. Sorry I made ya listen to it all, darlin’!)
