Define Recurring Character

shanachie_quillSince this comes up just about every time I watch Teen Wolf with irishjeeper… (Yes, I’m still watching Teen Wolf… no I am not going to justify that).
The definition of a recurring character.
According to just about every show on the air… appears at least 3 times per season (See Leonard Snart on Flash, see Sara Lance on Arrow, see Angel on Buffy, River Song on Doctor Who, and finally see Eyal on Covert Affairs).
The definition of recurring character Derek Hale on Teen Wolf, after being a series regular. He has yet to appear in a season five episode. And yet, he’s said to be a recurring character this season.
Are we now redefining recurring character? Or will we get at least three episodes with him? Oh wait… there aren’t three episodes LEFT!
