1. If money was no object, what novel/story would you like to see turned into a movie?
I’m not sure if you mean of my work or of the things I’ve read.
If you mean of my work— the answer is my novel, Blood Oath. While I haven’t gotten it published, I am in the process of re-editing it and self-publishing. I even went so far when I was first writing it to “cast” it with my dream cast. They’d all be way too old now, but it was fun at the time.
If you mean something I’ve read; I’m torn between two. Either Anne McCaffery’s Dragonriders of Pern or Mercedes Lackey’s SERRAted Edge series. Both of richly written series with engaging characters and gorgeous discriptions, but both would also cost more than a little to bring to the screen. Various companies have been teasing fans for years about a Pern series— first live action, then animated, movie, mini-series, regular series, but nothing has come of it. I’d love to see either on the large or small screen.
2. Your, "I watch this whenever I'm feeling blue" movie (or tv series).
You know I don’t think I have anything specific now. I did when I was a kid or rather I had a VHS tape that had three movies on it, The Monster Squad, the Lost Boys, and The Rescue. Whenever I was sick or just feeling blah or needed to feel better, I’d stick that tape in. Now I have two of those on DVD (I’ve never seen The Rescue on DVD and I just checked Amazon and apparently it’s not available on DVD), but I can’t say they’re my go to as much anymore. Um. I tend to go to movies where things blow up or cheesy 80s action movies (American Ninja is a favorite) or the old 80s/90s TV shows or 80s cartoons that I loved.
3. Your favorite original character and why.
I was trying to think of an original character as an answer for this and my first thought was I don’t know which one of my babies is my favorite. It’s impossible to choose just one. So I picked an original, an OC, and a series.
Nick: Nick Gauthier is a gentleman from the Deep South. He was raised right and knows how to treat a woman. There’s a lot of backstory that I’ve created for him that’s not in this short story and I’m hoping I’ll get to work on it soon. I really like him because he’s essentially the “perfect” guy… and he’s never going to disappoint the reader.
Aiden: Aiden Bancroft Lorne (most of the series is here) was my first OC for a fanfic series. She’s awesome. The youngest child of an Army colonel and a professor (and the only girl); Aiden is a trained anthropologist and linguist. She’s kickass, speaks her mind (and multiple languages), and has an awesome job. The reason I like her is she so much fun to write. She doesn’t take any shit from anyone, says pretty much whatever she wants, and works on Atlantis.
Leave series: (which can’t be viewed right now. The Navy in space! Essentially. Except the idea is this is what happens when the personnel are off or on Leave. It’s morphed a bit from the romance it started out as into an adventure series and isn’t quite finished yet. I have a few more stories to round out the series. I love it because I started it as one little short story for my sister and it has grown into so much more. Hopefully I will get it finished in the coming year, edit all of it, and be able to put it together in an anthology for publishing.
4. Do you collect anything? What?
When I was younger, I collected anything and everything. Tons of different things that just happened to catch my eye. Now I’m a little more discriminatory. One thing I do still collect is buttons. Not the buttons that you sew on clothes, but the pin buttons.
At the moment I have no idea how many I have (mostly because the majority of them are packed away, but I’d wager somewhere around 500. I have little buttons, big buttons, mini-buttons, round, oval, square, rectangle, you name it. I have old and new, funny, serious, fandom, not. I pretty much have everything you can think of. I even have an old Kennedy campaign button. So yeah. That’s what I collect.
5. If you had a daemon, what animal do you think he'd be? His name?
So I thought this would be easy but then realized my first thought was a fantastical animal and that wasn’t possible because even though it’s a fantastical series… the animal must still be real. So I went to my writing group and presented the question to them.
Thanks to the wonderful fabulous group that I work with and the wonderful Brandiwyn, I have a daemon. He does not have a name though. She pointed out that I am steadfast, a hardworker and elegant, but not easily spooked. Her first thought was a horse or an elephant, but we decided that was too big. So the decision was a sled dog, most especially a Husky. And his name would be Dlúthchara which is Irish for close friend.
