What is your favorite recipe? From
irishjeeper
I’m not sure if you want my favorite recipe to cook or my favorite to eat. So I guess I’ve got a few.
To eat:
Liver and onions. Lightly bread the liver with Bisquick, then fry it in a pan using bacon grease. Cook the onions in the same pan first. I’ve loved this since I was a little kid.
To make:
One of two or well three:
Russian Chicken (my gram taught me to make this and she got it from someone at her church)
Sheppard’s Pie
Meatloaf
And for dessert:
Cheesecake
And now I suppose you want the actual recipes? :-)
Russian Chicken
Ingredients:
1 envelope Onion Soup Mix
1 bottle Wishbone Russian Dressing
1 bottle Ken’s Russian Dressing
16 oz Apricot Preserves
5 boneless chicken breasts
white rice
Directions:
Mix soup mix, dressing, and preserves until well-blended.
Cover bottom of pan with a thin layer of sauce, place chicken breasts—thinly sliced in pan, cover with remaining sauce.
Bake in oven on 350 degrees for 55 minutes to an hour
Serve over rice
Sheppard’s Pie
Ingredients:
Ground hamburger
chopped onion
mixed veggies
beef broth or vegetable beef soup
mashed potatoes
Directions:
Chop potatoes and then boil then, drain and mash (mix with butter, milk and sour cream)
Brown hamburger and onions, drain off excess grease
Mix up soup/broth, mixed veggies, and hamburger meat
Either spread in a Pyrex pan or leave in the frying pan
If you cook in the Pyrex, spread the mashed potatoes over top and cook in the oven for approximately 20-30 minutes on 350 (leave a small hole for breathing in the mashed potatoes)
If you cook in the frying pan, cook the veggies and soup through, then spread the mashed potatoes across before serving.
Meatloaf
Reb’s “Secret” Meatloaf
My siblings are notoriously picky when it comes to food and neither one of them will eat
meatloaf. I made this one night for dinner because everyone was tired and they loved it. Now no one else in the house is allowed to make meatloaf. I actually just modified another recipe when I didn’t have the right ingredients for it.
Ingredients:
2 envelopes onion soup mix
3 1/2 pounds ground beef
2-3 slices of bread
1 egg
about a 1/2 cup of Jack Daniels original #7 BBQ sauce (I don’t measure this, just kinda dump it in—so this is an estimate)
3/4 C water
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in large bowl.
Grease a corning ware pan with Pam or other cooking spray, cook in microwave for 15 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. Serve.
I’ve also made hamburgers and muffins out of this—the muffins I bake in the oven at 350 until done.
And for dessert:
Cheesecake
What You Need
2
pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2
cup sugar
1/2
tsp. vanilla
2
eggs
1
HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust (6 oz.)
Make It
HEAT oven to 325°F.
BEAT cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with mixer until blended. Add eggs; beat just until blended.
POUR into crust.
BAKE 40 min. or until center is almost set. Cool. Refrigerate 3 hours.
**to make this white chocolate melt a bag of white chocolate chips and stir it into the batter before you bake it.
**you can also top with cherries after it is baked
