Jane looked up from her cereal bowl as Darcy pushed back from the table. “Did you hear something?” she asked. “Is it…?”

“No, Jane. Sorry.” Darcy shook her head. “I was just getting up. I’m going to try SHIELD again since they didn’t show up before Thor did. And if I can’t get them, I have another plan.”

“Who are you going to call?” Jane asked as Darcy dug her cell out of her bag. “Maybe we should just wait for Thor.”

“And I remind you again that last time you waited two years.” Darcy scrolled through her numbers. “I might just have the numbers of some of Thor’s friends.”

“How did you end up with the numbers of the Avengers?”

“Not the Avengers. Just the one with the arms. I thought it might be useful.” Darcy shrugged. “Besides. Apparently he was in New Mexico.”

Jane resumed poking at her cereal as Darcy dialed SHIELD for what seemed like the millionth time. As she again got a recording, she hung up and paged through her numbers, looking for the notation where she’d marked the agent’s number. She didn’t want people to easily find it and had marked him as ‘Bird Arms’ in her phone.

“How did you get this number?” a semi-familiar voice demanded.

“You gave it to me,” Darcy answered, rolling her eyes. “Get hit on the head recently?”

“As a matter of fact. Yes. My partner called it ‘cognitive recalibration’.”

“Oh. Well. Oops?” Darcy winced. “In that case. You gave me the number. After events in New Mexico. I’m calling about a pretty man…”

“Hang on. Don’t say anything else.” There was a series of beeps and then his voice came back. “Okay you can speak freely now.”

“I’m on a cell phone in London. Not sure how freely I should speak.”

“Honey, I live with Tony Stark. Trust me. The line is secure.”

“Fine. I’ll have to trust you.” Darcy took a deep breath. “I’ve been trying to call SHIELD for a few days.”

“Well there’s your first mistake.”

“Ya know. I’ve had a rough few days. I got zapped around Greenwich. So ya know. I would appreciate if you’d just let me tell you what happened. And then you can be… I don’t know all Avenger dude. But considering we just had god Avenger dude here, there’s not much for you to do.”

“Wait. Thor was there?”

“Don’t you guys talk to each other!” Darcy yelped.

“Generally I leave the talking to the guys like Stark. I shoot the things shooting at us,” Clint responded.

“Got it. Fine. We just thought you might like a heads up that we like averted Armageddon and that Loki’s apparently bit the big one.”

“Loki’s dead?” Clint asked. “Damn it. I didn’t get to do it myself.”

“So basically you wanted to commit murder to make yourself feel better?”

“Honey, it’s one of the better reasons to commit murder,” Clint drawled. “Anything else?”

“Nope, just thought the big, bad Avengers might want to know the shit that went down. Not that you were any help.”

“If we’d known, we would have helped,” Clint said. “Keep my number handy and give us a buzz if you need something else. Don’t bother with SHIELD.”

“Got it. You want me to holler if Thor comes back?”

“Sure. It would be nice to get the band back together.” There was a click as Clint hung up.

“Well, that was singularly unhelpful,” Darcy said. She turned back to Jane who was still moping in her Shreddies. “Come on, Jane. Up and at ‘em.”
