Author's Note: This is a follow-up to Bedtime Routine. Yes, this is who I was referring to in my story (the girl), but you can still assume it’s whomever you’d like. This is…I have no idea where this came from other than one of my friends has been encouraging me to write Henry with the baby for a few days. This? Not exactly fitting the description and maybe I’ll do some more…but this stuck in my head and wouldn’t leave me along. Damn it, I have other things to finish!
Henry set down his latest toy as a noise from the converted crate in the corner drew his attention. “Morning, Bella baby,” he greeted her as he peered over the side, then blinked. “Ooookay, that’s new.” Instead of his ten month old daughter, a baby hippo peered up at him. “Well, I guess we now know which side you’re taking after,” he commented. Turning, he scooped up the radio they used to communicate within the Sanctuary. “Let’s see if Mommy has any idea how to get you back to a little girl.”
As he watched, the hippo bounced and changed to a seal, then a polar bear before moving to a tiger. “At least I know you aren’t stuck as a hippo,” he commented. Clicking the talk button, he called, “Cee? You around?”
“Getting ready to leave with Kate and Magnus,” his mate answered. “Something wrong with Bella?”
“Um, our daughter has been a hippo, seal, bear, tiger, and now a tribble…no a Nubbin. Why is she cycling through animals? And is there anyway to stop it?” he replied.
There was silence for a moment before she answered, “Did you say she was a Nubbin?”
“Yes, our lovely little girl just changed into a Nubbin. Wait, now she’s a giraffe. Any idea why she’s doing this?”
“She’s an over-achiever?” Cee guessed. “Is she doing anything else?”
“She kinda bounces right before she changes,” Henry answered as he watched her cycle through another change.
The sound of Cee snapping her fingers was clear over the connection. “She’s hiccupping.”
“She’s what?” Henry asked. He wanted to pick Bella up, but wasn’t sure what animal she was going to take next and didn’t know if he would be able to hold onto it.
The sound of a discussion came over the radio, then Magnus asked, “Is Bella okay?”
“According to Cee, she has the hiccups so I would assume so?” Henry guessed, continuing to watch his baby and the cycling animals. “I mean babies get the hiccups, right? And then eventually stop? And don’t suffer ill effects?”
“Babies get the hiccups,” Magnus confirmed. “I can send Cee down if you need her.”
“No, she’s going with her because they won’t talk to anyone but her,” Henry decided. “We’ll be okay. If I’m gonna take care of her, I need to learn to deal with this.”
Cee’s voice returned. “She’s a little early, but this is normal, Henry. I promise.”
“Oh good, it’s normal that my ten month old gets the hiccups and turns into other animals. Awesome.”
“Hey, at least we know which one of us she’s taking after,” Cee replied. “I’ll come check on you when we get back.”
“We’ll be here.” Henry had been watching Bella the entire time, trying to count the number of animals. “Not like we can go anywhere.”
“She’ll stop soon,” Cee reassured him. “Call me if you need anything.”
“Yup, sure, awesome.” Henry tossed the radio back onto the bench and looked down at his daughter, who was currently a tortoise. “You need to take after me. Your mommy is driving me insane.”
Will found him bent over his tech bench about twenty minutes later. It looked like he was trying to re-wire an old style game console and hook it up to... Will tilted his head and decided he had no idea what Henry was trying to do and he had learned it was best not to ask about some of the tech in Henry's lab. Sometimes, the thing turned out to be an awesome scanner or a weapon, but, just as often, the thing was a toaster. “Did the girls take Bella with them?”
Henry shook his head, then removed the screwdriver from his mouth so he could talk to his friend. “She’s in her crate.”
“What you don’t let her play anymore?”
“She’s hiccupping,” Henry answered.
“And that means you can’t hold her?” Will asked.
“You try holding a Komodo dragon,” Henry told him. “I wouldn’t stick your hand in there.”
“So I gather we know what Bella is now?” Will replied.
“Not definitively actually,” Henry replied. “She could still exhibit Hap characteristics at a later date.”
Will blinked, turning his attention from peering into the crate to looking at Henry. “You mean she could be both Shifter and Hap?”
Henry shrugged, setting his tools down. “It’s not like there’s ever been another one like her. Hell, we didn’t even know Cee could get pregnant until she did.”
“Yeah, but…” Will started.
“Da! Da!” came from the crate, propelling Henry off his stool and immediately over to the box.
“Hey, my Belle,” he cooed, leaning over and reaching for her. “There’s my girl. Glad to see you’re my little girl again.” She lifted her arms up, gurgling happily when she spied him. “Feeling better, baby?” he asked as he settled her on his hip. “I think Mommy taking you to the zoo was a bad idea.”
“Da!” she replied.
He tapped her on the nose. “Yes, I’m Da.” Swinging her around, he pointed at Will. “Who’s that?”
“Da!” she repeated.
“And we’re still working on other words,” Henry sighed and shrugged. “Oh, well, it was worth a try.”
“So what are you going to do about the shape changing baby?” Will asked as Henry juggled the baby and a bottle for a moment before holding his hands out for the baby.
Henry handed her over gratefully and finished mixing the bottle before taking her back. “Cee seemed to think it was perfectly normal so I guess…nothing.”
“A baby changing into animals is normal?” Will questioned.
Henry indicated where they were. “Will, think about where we live. Bella turning into other animals when her mother is a Shifter is kinda par for the course.”
Will grinned as Henry tipped the bottle into his daughter’s mouth. “Touché.”

21/11/10 01:20 (UTC)You'll have to wait and see what happens when I post some of the other stories she's in. This is essentially future fic for where we are now in Sanctuary canon. I've got some that are now time that I haven't finished yet. And might give a little more background into where Henry's mindset is and stuff.
Since he didn't exactly intend to get into this situation with her.

22/11/10 21:18 (UTC)And I look forward to reading more of your stories anyway. By the way how do you pronounce her name, it might sound like a stupid question but I've been saying it as if pronounced SEE but wasn't sure if that was right.
And actually when I spotted Bella in the story I didn't even think about Twilight, not until you mentioned it.

23/11/10 00:46 (UTC)Thanks. I've got a couple that I'm working on...one will for sure be NC-17. One will be hard R due to violence. And one is pure crack and silly abuse of poor Will.
Her name is pronounced SEE actually. It's short for Celia...as in the old song (Celia you're breaking my heart...I was listening to a remake of it when I was writing the first story she's in...that I haven't finished yet.)
Awesome! Obviously despite my best efforts, I am entirely too influenced by Twilight.

23/11/10 18:10 (UTC)And I'm working on an idea for one that I may start soon.

24/11/10 00:09 (UTC)Well, Bella's name actually came from the fact that I have an uncle that is first generation Italian American, an ex-cousin in law that moved here from Italy when she was about 2, and a little cousin who's name is Isabelle and we call her Bella.
I can see Henry holding her for the first time and going "My beautiful little girl. Bellimissimo." And then deciding that her name should be Bella for beautiful...because Henry has to have picked up some languages over the years.
*grins* Awesome! Good luck.
I swear I was gonna work on Sanctuary tonight...but I've got the beginnings of another Shifter verse in my head...so I need to write that down before I forget it.

1/12/10 00:21 (UTC)Also I totally have a Halloween one shot/drabble in mind, which is inspired by the book I've just started reading recently, but my muse is begging me to write it.

15/1/11 03:39 (UTC)LOL yes Cee is. But I feel honored that she integrates so well that you thought she should be in there. The two stories introducing her (Just a Little Mod and Playing With...) are now posted if you're interested.
And some day I might get around to redoing my Master Posts and everything will be organized and everyone can figure out how everything goes together.
