I can’t really say I love any song. The music I listen to depends on my mood, what I’m doing, why I’m listening to music, and where I’m listening to music. I will say I do not like for my music to make me cry.
I tend to listen to the groups I like for the most part—I’ll find a group and I’ll stick with them unless they make a big departure from their regular sound. I have groups that I’ve been listening to for fifteen years or more. Despite this I am willing to try new music if someone tells me to take a listen. I like fast, upbeat music that will let me move and keep me going.
So with that in mind, I picked songs I enjoy and often listen to (and ended up with thirteen not ten). So here they are (in no particular order) with a little bit of commentary attached.
7 Days—Kane—Either the acoustic or the rock version, I love them both. Just an awesome country-rock song.
Scalliwag—Gaelic Storm—I love this song for a couple of reasons. One it’s an awesome “story” song. Two it’s fun to sing because you trip over your tongue and words if you don’t know it well. Three I once impressed the hell out of a guy by singing it with Patrick at a show and keeping up.
High Road to Linton/John’s Tune--Tartan Terrors—These are actually two songs but I combined them. Sean the piper is a world class piper—a gold medalist and absolutely fabulous. If you ever get the chance to see these guys—it’s a show you do not want to miss.
Back in Black—AC/DC--I will almost always associate this song with Supernatural and the Impala. That beautiful, gorgeous, sinful black car. Its supposed to be a family car, but it is most assuredly a muscle car and that car is associated in my mind with this song.
Sweet Home Alabama—Lynard Skynard--This song is for my bama boy and for those who know me, that’s all I need to say.
Amazing Scotland—Tartan Terrors—Sean again—this time with two old songs—Amazing grace for the military (and they dedicate it to the military and those who have served and are serving each time) and Scotland the Brave for the proud and the historic.
Black Betty—Ram Jam--from Losers and just a good rocking song for dancing around the room.
R.O.C.K. in the USA—John Mellencamp (aka Johnny Cougar)--this was one of two songs we used to play when we came back into the states from Canada when I was a kid and will forever be locked in my brain with “Back to the USA” as the songs to blast in the back seat as we crossed that line.
Kiss Me I’m Irish—Gaelic Storm--I’m only part-Irish but it’s a big part of my identity and there’s a line in the song “I am the one that your grandmother warned you about” and that makes me smile every time. Plus I love how it sounds like Patrick is kinda saying I’m Irish and you can just deal with it.
Snoopy vs the Red Baron—The Royal Guardsmen----This is another song from my childhood. I had it on vinyl (yes I’m that old) and I used to listen to it around Christmastime, sitting on the floor next to the record player. Now I listen to it all the time.
Moves Like Jagger—Maroon 5--This is another song I like to put on (especially when I’m the only one home) and dance around the room to. My little sister and I both like to sing it. Which is kinda cute in it’s own way.
Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy—Big and Rich--This is just. It’s a fun song. And having like four of my cousins turn to me and go “How do YOU know this song?!” at a wedding reception was hysterical.
Cobrastyle—Teddybears----This song has been on I think…everything lately. And it’s just a FUN song. Pretty much I just like dancing to it and being silly. So there you go…not ten songs I love, but thirteen songs I enjoy. Good enough?
