Revisiting the Past

Okay so more years ago than I care to admit to, I was an English major in college. And I got to do all these cool essay and research things sometimes. Apparently I miss these things because the back of my head has been thinking about one of the essays I worked on back in the day.

I had to read an article (which I unfortunately do not have now) about women in the media and would like to do a study about fictional women in movies and television. I'd like to pick a woman from each decade starting I think in the 50s or 60s and move into now. What I'm looking for is ideas of what to look at, articles to use as background, who I should include, pretty much anything. At this point I'm just gathering ideas and not sure what or where exactly I'm going with it.

The women I'm thinking of so far are:

June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver
Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie
Princess Leia from Star Wars
Padme Amidala from Star Wars
7 of 9 from Voyager
Parker and Sophie from Leverage
Starbuck from the new Battleship Galactica
Leeloo from 5th Element

Obviously that's probably more than I'll be able to include...but who knows since I have no idea how long I'm going to make this...ideally I may end up shopping this around depending on what I end up writing, but we'll see where I go with it.
