Title: Kitchen Crazy
Characters: Henry Foss/Cee Mcleod, Bella Foss, Abby Corrigan, Will Zimmerman
Fandom: Sanctuary
Series: Pack Life
Written For: whogeek and illfindmyway
Prompt: None
Summary: Bella’s a Daddy’s girl and even at two she knows what she wants. It’s just a little slice of calm and crazy instead of insane and crazy in Sanctuary life.
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None really, but my head space is sorta setting it after 402. It’s not really blatantly spoilered though.
Warnings: Um…Bella is Henry’s daughter. She’s friggin adorable.
Disclaimer: Bella is MINE! Cee belongs to Henry. Mostly because if anyone else tries to claim her, she’ll probably freak the fuck out. Everyone recognizable does not belong to me :-(
Author's Note: This? Sooo not what I intended to write yesterday. But the idea of Bella and Henry interacting like this just stuck in my head and would not leave me alone. And then? It would not end tonight. So I finally finished. And I needed to post it. And I realized I’d never named the series…so I did that too. And now tomorrow I have to work on my stories for nanoljers and for whogeek’s birthday because those due dates are fast approaching. BTW—the working title for this was “HAP face”. *giggles*
"Oh," Abby blurted out, stopping as she entered the kitchen. "I didn't..."
Cee looked over from where she was cooking at the stove. "We're just waiting for Henry to get back. Did you need something?"
"Will's speaking with Dr. Magnus and I just seemed rather...superfluous," Abby answered as she tried to look around the kitchen without looking obvious. "And I was hoping I could maybe find something to eat?"
Abby turned to see Henry entering through the side door, a bag over his shoulder as Bella yelled, “Daddy!”
He paused by Cee, sliding his arms around her waist and resting his nose in the crook of her neck for a minute. Meanwhile Bella’s cries got more strident and she began to bang on her tray. “Daddy! Daddy!”
“Go see your daughter before she shifts her way out of the chair,” Cee told him. She handed him the bottle that had been warming on the stove.
Henry pressed a quick kiss to her head. “How was she?” he asked as he shucked his bag and jacket. “Patience, Belladonna,” he told the toddler as she squirmed towards him. “Hi, Abby,” he added noticing the other woman in the room.
“Um, hi?” Abby replied tentatively, waggling her fingers at him.
Henry dropped into the chair next to Bella and tried to hand the bottle to her. “Were you a good girl?” he asked.
“Monkey!” she blurted.
“You were a monkey, huh?” he questioned. “You were a good girl for Mommy?”
“She was a good girl,” Cee answered. She set a plate of scrambled eggs in front of him. “Abby, what would you like?”
“You don’t have to cook for me,” Abby protested. “Take care of Bella.”
Cee motioned to Henry, who was attempting to coax the toddler to eat. “She won’t eat for me at all with Henry here. It’s fine.”
“If you’re sure,” Abby said and at Cee’s nod, she added, “Eggs are fine then. Thank you. I don’t need much. Just something to tide me over since we missed dinner.”
“Over easy, sunny side up, scrambled?” Cee asked.
“Daddy!” Bella interrupted them. “Daddy! Scare!”
“Not now, Bella,” Henry told her absently. He handed her the bottle and she glared at him. “Do you want more eggs?”
“Scare!” she demanded.
Abby looked between the two sitting at the table with her and Cee who was standing by the stove, apparently unconcerned with the conversation between the two of them. “Um, scrambled, I guess. What does she want?” she asked as Bella pushed her bottle off the tray.
Henry caught it, shaking his head at his daughter. “No, Bella. Bad Bella.”
“Daddy. Scare,” she answered.
“You might as well, Henry,” Cee told him over her shoulder. “She’s not going to stop until you do it.”
“I don’t want to reward her for bad behavior,” Henry pointed out.
“It’s more preventing a disaster,” Cee replied as Bella began to hoot. “She’s going to…”
“I know,” Henry cut her off. “Okay, Belladonna. Bella.” When calling her name didn’t break through, he growled softly at her.
Abruptly she ceased all sound and stared at him. “Scare?” she asked, reaching a hand out towards him.
Henry took her hand and a breath, then opened his mouth, roaring at her as his face morphed partially into the HAP appearance. Bella stared at him for a second before breaking into peals of laughter and clapping her hands. “’Gain!” she yelled at him.
Abby’s chair scooted backwards as she screeched, “Oh my god! Why would you…isn’t that…isn’t she…the baby!”
“Daddy! Daddy! ‘Gain!” Bella yelled. She tugged on the hand she held.
“How is she not afraid?” Abby asked as she stared at the two of them.
“Listen to her,” Cee answered as she set a plate in front the FBI agent. “Why should she be afraid of her daddy?”
Bella’s free hand waved as she tried to mimic what Henry had done, growling at him. “Good girl,” Henry praised her. “That’s my Bella.”
“I still can’t believe you just…at her like that.” Abby made a flailing motion as she tried to indicate what he’d done.
Henry rolled his eyes as he growled at Bella again who giggled in response and clapped her hands. “Henry. If you rile her up, you’re the one who’s staying up with her,” Cee warned him.
“Yes, dear,” Henry responded. “Bella, Mommy says we have to behave.”
“Bad Mommy,” Bella informed her.
Cee sighed. “Now she’s started. Henry, you’re not going to settle her down for bed for a good hour now.”
Henry lifted her out of the highchair, tickling her slightly, before leaning down to kiss Cee on the cheek. “It’s all right, Cee. Make sure you eat something and then go to bed. I’ll play with her for a little bit and then bring her to bed.”
“It’s late already,” Cee protested.
He wrapped an arm around her, drawing her in so the three of them were cuddled together; Bella tangling a hand in her mother’s red hair. “It’ll be all right,” he assured Cee. “She’ll settle down soon enough.”
“Oh. There you are.”
Abby turned at the familiar voice, shoving her chair back and moving towards him. “Will! They…and then she…and he…and she didn’t…and!”
“Breathe, Abby.” Will settled a hand on her shoulder as he looked at the three huddled together.
“Unca Will!” Bella cried as she noticed him. She twisted around in Henry’s arms, reaching towards the newcomer and growled at him, causing most of the adults in the room to laugh.
Will grinned. “Is she exhibiting HAP characteristics now?” he asked as he crossed the room and held his hands out to the little girl. Bella grinned at him, leaning towards him, before giggling and ducking back towards her father, hiding her head against his shoulder and peeking out at Will. The psychologist laughed in response and tickled her, obviously used to the game. “Oh, I see how it is. If I don’t scare, you won’t come to me.”
“She’s being persnickety tonight, Will,” Cee answered. “I don’t think it’s you.”
Henry moved Bella to his hip and didn’t wince when she changed her grip to his shorter hair. “Yeah, don’t take it personal, dude. She was giving Cee a hard time, too.”
“Clearly Daddy’s girl tonight,” Cee added.
“I’m going to take her upstairs since she seems to be settling down and see if I can get her to sleep,” Henry suggested. Bella stuck a couple of fingers on her free hand in her mouth and he sighed, pulling them back out. “No, Belladonna.” He leaned towards Cee. “Kiss Mommy.”
“Love Mommy,” Bella said as she smacked an open mouthed kiss against Cee’s cheek.
Cee pressed her face against Bella’s for a minute, just breathing in her scent. “I love you, too, my Bella,” she whispered. She turned her head and caught Henry’s mouth quickly. “Love you, too.”
“I know. But it’s okay. Because I love you. And it won’t happen,” he reassured her, knowing it was what she needed to hear. “Come to bed with us.” When she made a motion towards the dishes, he shook his head. “It’s all right. Leave them. Either someone will get them or you can clean them up after you’ve had some sleep. Come on.” Slipping the arm not occupied with Bella around her waist, he guided her from the room.
“What was that all about?” Abby demanded when Will turned his attention to her a moment later.
“Shh,” he cautioned. “They’ll hear you.”
“How will they…?” she asked in confusion.
Will pointed to his ear as he poked at what she’d been eating. “HAP and shifter, they have…better than average hearing. And that? Is complicated. Did you make this? Or Cee?”
“Cee did…wait why does that matter?”
Will favored her with a look. “Abby, you can do a lot of things, but you cannot cook.”
“I don’t know if you just insulted me or not,” Abby commented. “But I’d rather know what that was with Henry and Cee.”
“I told you. It’s complicated.” Will glanced around the room, then grabbed the plate and dumped the eggs into the trash. “Come on. We can use some sleep, too. Magnus and Biggie have both turned in and we’ll get called if there’s another crisis.” He wrapped a hand around her bicep. “And hopefully there won’t be one until we get a full eight hours. I doubt it though.” Tugging carefully, he pulled her from the room, cutting off her questions every time she started to ask one.
