Clint flipped through the file that Coulson had handed him. Despite the technological advances everywhere else, SHIELD still used paper files in certain cases. He paused when he got to the location. “Really? Are they looking to have us shot on sight?”

“It’s not the first time you’ve been sent to the former Soviet bloc,” Coulson replied evenly. “Natasha knows the lay of the land and can move easily once the two of you are on the ground.”

“Besides Kazakhstan is not friendly with Russia at this time so there’s less of a chance that I’ll be in danger or a danger,” Natasha commented.

“Tasha, darling, you are always a danger,” Clint drawled.

The answering smile he got did nothing to reassure either of them.

“If I could draw your attention back to the mission,” Coulson said. “This should be a simple in and out.”

Clint widened his eyes. “Would that be like Warsaw?”

“Or Budapest?” Natasha asked.

“What did happen in Budapest?” Clint asked. “Because you and I remember that very differently.”

“Barton. Romanov,” Coulson snapped, obviously fed up with their antics.

“Sir,” they replied in unison.

“If we could finish. This. Briefing.”

Clint looked down at his folder again. “Hey, if we’re gonna be in Kazakhstan, we should go undercover as Natasha and Boris. We hunt Moose and Squirrel,” he finished in a purposely bad Russian accent.

Natasha responded by throwing a knife at him.

Coulson just sighed. Sometimes it was like trying to herd cats. Watching them interact like this, one would never know they were two of the best assassins in the business. He also knew this is one of the ways they blew off steam and sometimes it was better just to let them work through it. “When you’re finished,” he said tiredly.
