FIC Tease Sanctuary/Hawaii Five-O Crossover
I've been working on a Sanctuary/Hawaii Five-O crossover and I am interested in seeing if anyone other than my usual suspects would like to read this...so i thought I'd post a teaser here and I'll pimp it later tomorrow (er later today) and see what people think...I'm just posting a couple of sections of what's written and if people are interested, I'll keep it on my list of things to work on now. These are in chronological order for the story, but do not necessarily hook together.
Section 1
Danny looked up from the body as Steve straightened from his crouch and began wandering away from the crime scene. “Um, McGarrett? Hello?” He stared at his partner as the other man moved almost aimlessly towards the spectators. In confusion, Danny turned to Chin, “What? Suddenly the body holds no interest for him?” he demanded.
Chin shrugged. “Something’s got his attention.”
Danny sighed. “Well whatever it is, let’s hope he doesn’t cause another international incident.” Motioning to the coroner’s assistants, he indicated he was done with the body. Noises from the crowd drew his attention and he turned to see Steve struggling with a petite red-headed woman. “Seriously?!” he cried.
Steve had the girl by the arm and was trying to drag her towards the official vehicles, but she wasn’t coming quietly. Although she’d dug her heels into the pavement, she wasn’t really preventing Steve from moving her since she was so much smaller than the ex-SEAL. Surprisingly despite her struggles, she was silent and not railing against his actions. Obviously fed up, Steve leaned over and said something to her, freezing her in place. Whatever it was made a difference in her reaction because she stopped fighting him and walked towards the car, although her movements were stiff and she obviously wasn’t happy.
Danny cut across the crime scene, meeting up with the two at the car as Steve hauled her into place. He watched in puzzlement as the taller man snapped a bracelet on her arm before cuffing her hands behind her back. “I know you know something,” he was telling her as Danny joined them.
“What the hell, you psycho?” Danny blurted out when he was close enough to them that everyone within a ten block radios wouldn’t hear him. “What are you doing?!” He reached for the girl intending to uncuff her, only to have Steve knock his hands away. “What?!”
“She stays cuffed. And she’s going back to the office with us,” Steve replied. He glared down at the girl. “She knows something.”
“She’s five foot nothing, McGarrett! She’s not dangerous. And I sincerely doubt she could have done that!” Danny flailed his hand at the crime scene, indicating where the body had been lying; ripped almost to shreds.
“She’s not what she looks like,” Steve replied. “And she’s not alone.” He pushed her into the waiting patrol car, adding, “They’re never alone.” Turning to the officers, he instructed, “Do not take off the cuffs or that band. Take her directly to 5-0 headquarters and escort her inside. We’ll meet you there.”
“You cannot just randomly arrest people,” Danny protested as Steve turned away from the car. “Hey! You can’t just…” He groaned as Steve walked off again, this time towards another group of officers. Torn between following the psycho he was partnered with and trying to convince the officers to let the girl go, Danny decided to follow Steve for now. The girl wasn’t in distress for the moment and hopefully he’d be able to get her released when they reached headquarters.
Section 2
When they walked into the building the girl was sitting at the seldom used conference table, two officers behind her and Kono and Chin on the other side of the room. As soon as her green eyes alighted on Steve, she tried to rise to her feet, but was stopped by not having her hands free. “God damn it, McGarrett,” she snapped. “You don’t have any right to arrest me.”
“Who said anything about arresting you?” he replied. “You’re being detained for questioning regarding the crime scene you were observing.”
“Seriously?” She rolled her eyes. “You really think I’d hang around if I had something to do with it? Let. Me. Go.”
Steve leaned his hands on the table, staring her in the eyes. “Who are you here with?”
“Fuck. You,” she replied succinctly.
“I can hold you here pretty much indefinitely,” Steve retorted. “So you might as well tell me who you’re working for.”
“Oh my goddess, you’re even more insane than the last time I saw you!” she exclaimed. “Does anyone here actually listen to you? I’m not working for anyone. I’m a tattoo artist!”
“All right, hang on,” Danny broke in. Pointing at Steve, he said, “You sit down.” Moving around the table, he motioned for the girl to lean forward. “Let’s at least get you uncuffed.” When Steve started to protest, he said, “There are six armed and trained people in this room. All of whom out-weigh her by quite a bit. I think we can handle it if she attacks us.”
“Fine, uncuff her, but leave the bracelet on her wrist,” Steve replied. He motioned for the two officers to leave the room.
The girl rubbed her wrists as she brought her arms around front, smiling at the blonde. “Thank you,” she said quietly. “At least someone here has manners.”
Section 3
A commotion from the other room drew their attention as Cee and Steve continued their stare-off. The sounds continued and Steve broke her gaze, motioning for Kono to stay with her as the three men exited the conference room.
Danny blinked at the sight of the snarling man who was stalking through their main room, his nose high in the air as he scented the air. He was shirtless, a pair of boarder shorts riding low on his hips. A dark haired man, whose hair vaguely resembled the guy from Twilight, followed behind; not close enough to get in his way as he scanned the room.
“Freeze, 5-0,” Steve demanded as the man changed directions to head towards the room the men had exited.
All three of them went for their guns as the words didn’t even make the man pause. Without even a thought to how much taller Steve was, he stalked right up to him; sniffing at him. “You smell like her. Where. Is. She?” The last word was more snarl than actual word.
The two cops stared at the half-naked man for a moment, almost shocked that someone dared get in Steve’s face; someone that wasn’t Danny anyway.
The dark haired man tried to pull at his friend’s arm, not budging him despite being slightly taller. “Umm, maybe this isn’t the best way to go about finding her, Henry…” He planted his feet and pulled harder. “Henry? Damn it. Okay, ya know what? Time to find your fucking happy place cause going to town on a bunch of cops isn’t gonna help!”
The man, Henry, turned and snarled, “He smells like her. He touched her.”
Danny was surprised as the other man hip-checked him away from Steve and got in Henry’s face. “Okay. And threatening him and getting yourself shot is not going to help her. We’ll call the doc and have her pull strings or Cee said she knew people on the island. If you’d stop thinking with your damn hind brain, we can use that.”
Danny waved his hand slightly, trying to attract the man’s attention. “Did you say Cee?”
“Yeah,” he answered, turning, but keeping Henry in the corner of his eye. “His wife, Cee, disappeared this morning. We were on the beach and she went up to get shave ice. There was a murder and she didn’t come back.” He cut his eyes to Henry for a minute, then continued, “Henry tracked her to here.”
Debating, Danny decided they might get more out of the girl if she saw her husband and maybe these two had some information that could be added to what she knew. “If you calm down,” he said in a steady voice, “we did bring a Cee Mcloed in to see if she had any information. She’s not under arrest, but she’s been uncooperative since she got here.”
“Where is she?” Henry demanded.
Danny pointed. “She’s in…Hey! You can’t just…”
Section 4
Steve glared, but moved forward and used something to unlock the cuff. Henry tossed it away with a look of disgust, inspecting her arm and making sympathic noises. After a minute he looked up, asking Will, “Do we have the kit?”
“No,” Will answered. “It’s in the car. How bad is she?”
“I’m fine, Will,” Cee answered. She had tucked herself as much into Henry’s body as she could without sitting in his lap and was leaning into his stroking hand, drawing comfort. “It can wait.” Henry growled at her words, his skin rippling at the same time. Danny blinked as his face shifted; his nose and mouth elongating as fur began to sprout. Cee smacked him on the tip of the nose. “No,” she told him. “They didn’t really hurt me.”
“How is this not hurting?” Henry demanded, holding up her arm.
“It’ll heal,” she insisted.
He shook his head. “Not with most of your nutrietents going to the baby. It might get infected before it heals.”
“Baby?" Danny muttered from between clenched teeth. “She’s pregnant?” He turned to glare at Steve, who knew when he was in trouble and attempted to edge towards the door. Chin blocked it easily and crossed his arms, obviously having no qualms about throwing the other man into the shark tank.
Kono had disappeared while they were talking but now she edged her way back up to the table, clutching an oversized first aid kit. “Would this help?” she asked.
Will almost pounced on it, pulling it up, and rooting through. “Yes! Thank you!” Sitting down next to his two friends, he said, “Cee, let me see your arm.”
Cee sighed, but held her arm out to him. Henry’s hand had gone to her stomach, resting on the gentle swell that was now visible to the rest of the group. Danny pointed at him, then at Cee, before his eyes moved down to the visible proof of her pregnancy. “Someone had better explain what the hell is going on here!” he demanded. “Why did our resident rule breaker haul her in? How the hell did he know she was here? And please tell me we aren’t going to be facing lawsuits.”
“No, we aren’t going to sue anyone,” Will answered without looking up from the cream he was smearing on the burn. “We don’t work that way.” He glanced up, meeting Henry’s eyes, obviously communicating with him by eye contact. “Henry…tracked Cee by scent. He’s able to do that because of who they are. And I’ve got no clue why your ‘resident rule breaker’ hauled her in.”
Steve opened his mouth to respond, but stopped at a glare from Danny. “Is whatever you’re about to say going to piss them off?” the shorter detective asked.
“I was just going to say she’s a shifter,” Steve answered. “And the victim was ripped apart by something like that.”
Henry snorted, his attention pulled away from Cee by Steve’s words. “A shifter didn’t do that. For one thing, most shifters don’t rip kills to pieces and for another, we picked Oahu because there isn’t a shifter clan here.”
“Why would three shifters want to avoid shifter clans?” Steve asked.
Will wiggled his fingers at them. “Not a shifter. Purely human here.” Nodding at Henry, he added, “And he’s not a shifter either.”
Cee laughed. “Purely human. I like that one. Gotta remember to tell Kate that one.”
Section 5
“Wait. Wait. Wait. Hold on a second,” Danny interrupted. “So if she’s a shifter.” He pointed at Cee. “And you’re essentially human.” He pointed at Will. “What’re you?” His finger moved to Henry.
“HAP,” the man in question answered promptly.
Danny blinked as the rest of 5-0 looked at him in confusion. “Say what?”
“Hyper-accelerated protean,” Henry explained. “Class nine.”
“Say what?” Chin asked.
“Werewolf,” Will said succinctly.
“We don’t use that word,” Henry grumbled as Cee hid a smile apparently used to their by-play.
“Those…those don’t exist,” Danny said, sitting down abruptly.
